Youth growing up in Kibera face numerous challenges. Many grow up in deplorable living conditions, lacking basic infrastructure and services including safe water, proper housing and sanitation, health services, garbage collection, law enforcement and an access to an education that could ultimately lift them out of poverty. The vicious cycle of poverty persisting in  Kibera as children lack access to an adequate education and thus, future employment prospects that have the potential to drag them out of poverty. Being faced with extreme hardships, many youths are forced to engage in risky activities, such as position, early marriage, and substance abuse; activities which also put them at greater risk of catching HIV/AIDS.
